Good one Dami! Yes navigating aging is an interesting part of this journey that nothing really prepares you for. Like birthing a child! We can read all about these things but then there is living it, and finding our own way. Bringing in some gentleness seems a lovely gesture for me. Letting it be ok to just "be" part of each day and not always doing. After all, we are Human Be-ings :)

And right on about Joe! Let it go Joe. Let it go!

Thank you Cat for your gentle approach to aging.

I hear what you are saying and I don't have all the answers, but I think we need to take into account that the next President will probably be making appointments to the Supreme Court and it's already lopsided.

As far as our personal abilities--I find it very difficult to figure out when to push and when to rest. And in particular, when planning a long-distance hike, it's very hard to determine it it will be doable.

Susan, you and me both! We both know what we were capable of. Always the comparing mind, even if we do accept our aging. Don’t you think the decline is accelerating at our age?

"Don’t you think the decline is accelerating at our age?" Not sure--I only know that I was able to keep up an one point and now can't. Of course I was trying to keep up with much younger people because most my age weren't doing what I was doing.

Indeed the "comparing mind" -- if only I could be graceful about it all. But when we have spent much of our lifetime being active, trying new things, setting goals and working to achieve them, it's hard to accept that there are real physical things/changes that make reaching some goals increasingly difficult if not impossible.

Note: I am writing this as I sit here with COVID (first time) and feeling very sorry for myself because I have had to cancel all our 4th of July plans and have no energy to do much at all! :-)

Aww, take care of yourself. There will be other days to plan and gather.

Seriously? I almost skipped this piece because I was terribly busy today but it looked like it might be enjoyable, if not a little bit informative since I am also in the fall of my life. Big mistake…stay in your wheelhouse, Dami, politics is not your forte and I resented having a nicely written hiking piece spoiled by politics.

Debra, I’m sorry if my post got you riled up. Not my intent. As I say under my logo Walk with Dami, rambling thoughts generated at 2 miles an hour. The debate happened to be the topic of the week stirring my brain.
